Objective: The code blue call is used to alert the Code Blue team for patients with cardiac or respiratory arrest. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the time, the locations, and the outcomes of code blue calls. We also aimed to determine the rate of false code blue calls, and demographic data of the patients. Material and Methods:In this study, we retrospectively scanned the code blue call forms in our hospital between January 2017 and January 2018. The demographic data of the patients, the arrival time of the team, the time, the locations, and the outcomes of the calls, and the rate of false code blue calls were recorded. Results:We had 225 code blue calls in the study period. The mean arrival time of the team was 1.97±0.72 min. Most of the code blue calls were given in Palliative Care Unit (76 patients, 33.77 %), followed by Internal Medicine Services (54 patients, 24 %), and Department of Pulmonary Diseases (36 patients, 16%). The rate of false code blue calls was found to be 13.33 %. Most of the code blue calls (140 calls, 62.22 %) were during off times. A hundred patients had died (44.44 %); 88 patients had been admitted to the ICU (39.11 %); and 7 had been continued care in ward (3.11 %) by a successful intervention. Conclusion:Giving more blue code calls during off-hours and the absence of night duty doctor at the services, especially in rural hospitals like ours, emphasizes the importance of this system.

Background: Code Blue is a popular hospital emergency code that is used to alert the emergency response team to any medical emergency requiring critical care. By retrospectively studying Code Blue cases in a children's hospital, we looked for high-risk factors associated with survival and how to improve the effectiveness of Code Blue systems through training. Methods: Data were collected on age, gender, department, diagnosis, time of Code Blue call activation, time between call and arrival of the Code Blue team, treatment details and outcome before and after the training process from January 2016 to December 2019. Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the data. Results: A total of 139 Code Blue cases from the period of January 2016 to December 2019 were retrospectively studied. The wards where Code Blues occurred most frequently were the infectious diseases ward (n=31, 22.3%), the hematology and oncology ward (n=30, 21.6%), and the cardiology ward (n=15, 10.8%). Age, inpatient status, time of arrival, the time of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and the cause of shock were all risk factors for death. After the training, the arrival time and recovery time were significantly reduced (P<0.01). The proportion of patients who were transferred to the ICU had increased (P<0.05), and the proportion of deaths had decreased (P<0.01). The survival curve improved (P<0.05). Conclusions: It is very important to summarize the risk factors related to Code Blue. It is clear that the efficacy of the Code Blue events improved after training of the hospital staff in the Children's Hospital.

ÖzetAmaç: Hastanemizde etkinleştirilen mavi kodların özelliklerini belirlemek ve mavi kod ekibinin performansını iyileştirmeye yönelik önerilerde bulunmaktır. Gereç ve yöntem: Üçüncü basamak bir hastanede, 01.01.2015-31.12.2018 tarihleri arasında gerçekleşen mavi kod çağrıları hastane veri tabanından toplandı. Mavi kod çağrılarının sonuçları ve bu ekibinin performansı kaydedilmiş ve yıllara göre karşılaştırılmıştır. Ayrıca, mavi kod ekibinin başarısı ile ilgili faktörler de araştırılmıştır. Bulgular: Çalışma süresi boyunca toplam 2527 mavi kod çağrısı kaydedilmiştir. Hatalı mavi kod çağrılarının oranı %2,6'dir. Gerçek mavi kod çağrılarına dair sonuçlar incelendiğinde, kardiyopulmoner resüsitasyon sonrasında toplam 1187 hastanın eks olduğu görülmüştür. "Çalışma saatleri içindeki" (08:00-17:00) çağrı sayısı ile karşılaştırıldığında "çalışma saatleri dışında" (17:00-08:00) alınan çağrıların sayısının anlamlı olarak daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir (p<0,05). 2018'de verilen hatalı kodların sayısı 2016 ve 2015 yılları ile karşılaştırıldığında anlamlı derecede daha yüksek bulunmuştur (p<0,05). 2018'de gerçekleşen ölüm sayısı 404 (%53,8) olarak bulunmuş ve bunun diğer yıllara göre daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç: Kurumumuzdaki mavi kod çağrılarının oranı önemli ölçüde artış eğilimi göstermektedir. Mavi kod çağrılarındaki bu artışla başa çıkabilmek için, özellikle mesai saati dışındaki zamanlarda mavi kod ekibi hem personel hem de eğitim faaliyetleri açısından takviye edilmelidir.
