Morphology of TeV Gamma-Ray Emission from the Kiloparsec-scale Jets in Radio Galaxies

Abstract: TeV γ rays are observed from a few nearby radio galaxies whose jets are viewed at relatively large angles towards the observer. This emission can be produced in the kpc scale jets whose Lorentz factors are decelerated from values of the order of several at the parsec scale distances. We consider in detail the model in which TeV γ-ray emission is produced by the relativistic electrons in the kpc scale jet which comptonize strongly beamed radiation from the inner (parsec scale) jet. As an example, we study morph… Show more

“…However in the radio galaxy Cen A, extended TeV emission has recently been reported [135], thanks to the unique proximity of the source. The estimated projected distance from the core is roughly a few kpc, although the real distance may be larger due to projection effects [136]. This observational result provides further evidence for the acceleration of ultra-relativistic electrons in radio jets and confirms their major role in the TeV emission and misaligned AGN.…”
