“…Electron microscopy showed that the cells were poorly differentiated lymphocytes rather than histiocytes. Although ultrastructural features do not unequivocally define cells as being of B‐ or T‐lymphocyte lineage, the cytoplasm containing expanded RER was similar to that described previously for B‐cells (Rilke et al., 1978). As some cases of precursor B‐cell neoplasms have been reported to be immunohistologically negative for B‐cell‐associated antigen (CD20) and positive for B‐cell‐associated markers in the pre‐B‐cell stage (CD79a) (Harris et al., 1994), we considered that the present tumour was an extranodal lymphoblastic lymphoma of suspected B‐cell lineage, which had probably originated in the lymphatic system (MALT) of the gingiva.…”

“…At least morphologically, subsets of lymphocytes exist in both ML,WDL and ML,PDL (Lennert, 1978;Levine and Dorfman, 1975;Pangalis et al, 1977;Rilke et al, 1978;Said et al, 1979) and some components have been thought to resemble the partially or fully transformed lymphocytes of germinal centers (Rilke et al, 1978;Said et al, 1979). On the basis of the morphometric data in this report, perhaps there is some validity to these observations.…”

“…Using the low power mode of the electron microscope Philips EM301), specific areas of tin patterns than the Gmphocytes usually interpreted as the main tumor cohort (Levine and Dorfman, 1975;Rilke et al, 1978;Said et al, 1979). However, no quantitative study is available comparing the fine structural fea-the reactive lymph nodes and ML,PDL cases, i.e., follicular regions in both cases, were identified for photography.…”
