Morphology, Morphogenesis and Small Subunit rRNA Gene Sequence of a Soil Hypotrichous Ciliate, Perisincirra paucicirrata (Ciliophora, Kahliellidae), from the Shoreline of the Yellow River, North China

Abstract: The morphology, morphogenesis, and 18S rRNA gene sequence of a soil hypotrichous ciliate Perisincirra paucicirrata, isolated from north China, were investigated. Perisincirra paucicirrata differs from its congeners in: (1) having a body length to width ratio in vivo of 4:1, (2) its adoral zone occupying between 15% and 25% of the total body length, and (3) the presence of two parabuccal cirri, three left (with 10-16 cirri each) and two right marginal rows (with 14-24 cirri each), and three dorsal kineties. Our… Show more

“…8-10 (pop.1) and 4-9 (pop.2) vs 4; (4) more dorsal kineties (5 vs 2); (5) caudal cirri present (vs absent). Our populations can be separated from Perisincirra by having: (1) adoral zone of membranelles and undulating membranes patterns in Oxytricha pattern (vs. Gonostomum pattern); (2) more buccal cirri and parabuccal cirri number (3-4 vs 1, 3-5 vs 2, respectively); (3) more macronuclear nodules i.e., 8-10 (pop.1) vs 2, 4-9 (pop.2) vs 2; (4) more dorsal kineties (5 vs 3) (Li et al 2013;Luo et al 2016).…”

“…spaced cirri and the absence of caudal cirri. According to Li et al (2013), P. paucicirrata has four frontoventral anlagen, of which the long right and left rows are all marginal rows; that is, there are no long frontoventral rows (vs. having six frontoventral anlagen with more than two long frontoventral rows of Deviata) (Dragesco 2003;Eigner 1995Eigner , 1997K€ uppers and Claps 2010;K€ uppers et al 2007;Siqueira-Castro et al 2009).…”

“…The hypotrichs s. l. are one of the most diverse and speciose ciliate groups with about 700 valid species de-scribed so far (Berger 1999(Berger , 2006(Berger , 2008(Berger , 2011Foissner et al 2002;Foissner 2016). Recently, much work has been carried out on the morphological and molecular diversity of hypotrichs, helping to improve the knowledge on their phylogeny, even though it remains unresolved at various levels (Shao et al 2011(Shao et al , 2013a(Shao et al , b, 2014Li et al 2013;Heber et al 2014;Paiva et al 2014Paiva et al , 2016Jo et al 2015;Luo et al 2015;Singh and Kamra 2015;Bharti et al 2016;de Castro et al 2016de Castro et al , 2017Wang et al 2016Wang et al , 2017Chen et al 2017).…”
