Morphology and Orientation of Crystallites of Simultaneous Biaxially Stretching Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene Films Prepared by Gelation/Crystallization from Solutions

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Simultaneous biaxially stretching was carried out using ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene dry gel films which were prepared by crystallization from solutions. The concentrations were 0.45, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, and 1.0 g/100 mL. The maximum draw ratio was dependent upon the concentration of the solutions. The greatest significant drawability could be realized at 0.9 g/100 mL which is much higher than the optimum concentration of 0.45 g/100 mL assuring the draw ratio > 300-fold for uniaxially… Show more

“…17,18 The comparison between the experimental and re-calculated results was done in the previous paper. 11 As shown in the previous paper, 11 the re-calculated functions calculated from the orientation distribution function of crystallites were in good agreement with the observed functions, indicating that the experimental functions have high accuracy. To facilitate understanding the results, thes re-calculated curves are shown again as dotted curves in this paper.…”

“…In accordance with the orientational mode of the (200) plane, the (110) plane takes two modes. This mode was discussed elsewhere 11,16 and the mathematical geometrical arrangement shall be discussed later in this paper.…”

“…Namely, the considerable -dependence in Figure 6 is due to the specific rotation of crystallites around the c-axis as has been observed for the orientation of crystallites of polyethylene films. 16 If !ð; Þ shows a circular contour map with a maximum peak at ¼ 90 , all 2q j ðcos j Þ of the ðhk0Þ planes must show the same curves indicating random orientation of crystallites around their c-axis.…”
