Morphology and Immunological Roles of Hemocytes and Fixed Phagocytes in Black Tiger Shrimp Penaeus monodon

Abstract: ABSTRACT--Morphologyand immunological roles of the three distinct types of hemocytes, hyaline, small granular and large granular cells in black tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon were stud ied. The study of functions of these hemocytes in the elimination of injected yeast (Saccharomy ces cerevisiae) or Vibrio harveyi as foreign bodies showed a rapid response against those particles. Together with fixed phagocytes, the blood cells removed the yeast through the process of phagocy tosis, nodule formation and encapsulat… Show more

“…Kemudian sel granular akan membentuk nodul dalam waktu 3-9 jam, sehingga terbentuk kapsul yang terjadi antara 24-48 jam atau lebih lama dimana ada sejumlah besar sel darah yang mengelilingi benda asing tersebut. Pembentukan nodul terjadi apabila tubuh inang diserang oleh partikel-partikel kecil dalam jumlah yang banyak (Supramattaya et al, 2003).…”

“…It was shown by Musa acuminate (Rattanavichai and Cheng, 2015), Morinda citrifolia (Halim et al, 2017), and Solanum nigrum (Harikrishnan et al, 2011). Both semigranulocyte (Kakoolaki et al, 2010) and hyaline cells (Supamattaya et al, 2003) show significant roles in release and storage of the proPO system (Johansson and Soderhall, 1985). Indeed, P. monodon phagocytes have been figured out to concentrate antigens in the HP as a warning to trigger an immune response (Alday-Sanz et al, 2002).…”
