Morphology and histology of the adultParamphistomum gracileFischoeder, 1901

Abstract: In the present study, we evaluated the histological morphology of the adult Paramphistomum (P.) gracile. Adult flukes with bodies 5~15 mm in length and 2~7 mm in width were subjected to histological analysis. Longitudinal and transversal serial-sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin, and examined. The body surface and longitudinal section of P. gracile were also assessed using scanning electron microscopy. In this species, the anterior sucker and posterior sucker (acetabulum) were present on an anter… Show more

“…The method described by Anuracpreeda et al . was used to obtain WB extract. Briefly, adult parasites were homogenized in lysis buffer (0·01 m phosphate buffer saline (PBS), pH 7·2, containing 10 m m Tris–HCl, 150 m m NaCl, 0·5% Triton X‐100, 10 m m EDTA and 1 m m PMSF), and then sonicated for 5 min in an ice bath with 15‐s pulses.…”

“…It is reported that Gastrothylax crumenifer, Paramphistomum cervi, and Paramphistomum epiclitum are common in ruminants in some regions (Gupta et al 1987;Panyarachun et al 2013;Wang et al 2006). G. crumenifer is an important member of paramphistomes parasitizing the rumen and/or reticulum of ruminants.…”

“…The prevalence of this parasite is very high in tropical countries [ 4 , 5 ]. Some reports specified that, in tropical and subtropical areas, Paramphistomum cervi , P. Epiclitum , and G. crumenifer are the most prevalent parasites which cause the disease in ruminants [ 6 , 7 , 8 ].…”
