Morphology and Crystallization of Polypropylene/Microfibrillated Cellulose Composites

Abstract: Microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) was prepared by controlling the re-precipitation of cellulose prepared in the mixture form of NaOH/Urea solubilized microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) and starch. The cellulose re-precipitation was carried-out in an HCl bath, resulting in a MFC form having relatively lower crystallinity than MCC. The XRD pattern of MFC indicated the partially crystalline structure arising from the imperfect orientation of a cellulose chain obstructed by a starch molecule in the precipitation step… Show more

“…Altogether, these scale-related interaction issues will most likely impact the WRV method's feasibility and applicability. Several studies [75][76][77][78] have employed the abovereferred SCAN and TAPPI standards by modifying the centrifugal force, time, amount of material, or other essential factors-for example, by means of a different centrifugal tube [79]-rather than those stated in the standards for WRV measurements. Currently, there exists no standardized procedure for the reliable measurement of the water-retention capacity of MFC-type structures.…”
