Morphological variation of four species of Strongyloides (Nematoda, Rhabditida) parasitising various mammal species

Abstract: Study of the morphologic peculiarities of free-living stages of nematodes of the Strongyloides genus is important in differential diagnostics of pathogens. We studied the parasite of goats (Capra aegagrus hircus Linnaeus, 1758) – Strongyloides papillosus (Wedl, 1856); the parasite of horses (Equus ferus caballus Linnaeus, 1758) – S. westeri Ihle, 1917; the parasite of swine (Sus scrofa Linnaeus, 1758 ) – S. ransomi Schwartz & Alicata, 1930; the parasite of dogs (Canis lupus familiaris Linnaeus, 1758) – S. … Show more

“…The number of parameters proposed by other authors ranged from one to 10, including the total body length of males, the distance from the head to the nerve ring, maximum body width, total length of the esophagus, length and width of the cylindrical esophagus and bulb, distance from the cloaca to the tail end, the length of the narrowed part of the tail, the width of the narrowed part of the tail in the area of the papillary protrusions and the total length of the spicule. Moreover, our data and the results of other authors are somewhat different (Hall, 1916;Skryabin et al, 1960;Gvozdev et al, 1970;Hugot et al, 1983;Frank et al, 2013;Boyko et al, 2019;Gugosyan et al, 2019;Mykhailiutenko et al, 2019). This difference may be due, in our opinion, to the morphological adaptation of pathogens to ever-changing living conditions.…”

“…According to our data, the prevalence of the parasitic infection among cattle in diff erent regions of Ukraine ranges from 20-80 %, the most aff ected by the parasite being young cattle under one year. Th e peculiarities of the development and morphology of helminths in diff erent types of hosts were studied by Audebert et al (2004), Eberhardt et al (2008), Gugosyan et al (2018Gugosyan et al ( , 2019 and others. Eberhardt et al (2008) studied the populational diff erences of S. papillosus in cattle and sheep.…”

“…Th e authors describe the morphometric features of four species of Strongyloides parasitising in domestic animals of Ukraine. It was proposed to diff erentiate the types of Strongyloides by the ratio of various morphometric indices (Gugosyan et al, 2019).…”

“…Studi histologi menunjukkan infeksi Strongyloides sp. dapat menyebabkan atrofi dari vili usus, akumulasi sel limfatik, neutrofil, dan eosinofil pada tempat parasit ditemukan (Gugosyan et al 2019). Hal inilah yang menyebabkan kucing 41-20 mengalami kecacingan oleh Strongyloides sp.…”
