Morphological variation and strain identification of insects using wings and I3S

The shape of the wings as well as the cloud of points marking the meeting point of the veins within the wing both contribute to distinguishing the very similar (in appearance) transgenic strains from the parent A. gambiae G3 strain in I3S (Vyas-Patel N & Mumford JD, 2018). It is clear from this study that I3S could distinguish between strains of the same species, in this case transgenic DSM 1 & 2 from the parent A. gambiae G3 with 70 to 100% accuracy at Rank 1 and could be used in any study where different strains needed to be sorted, provided that a phenotypic difference existed between the strains under consideration.…”
