Morphological Investigation of Hybrid Langmuir−Blodgett Films of Arachidic Acid with a Hydrotalcite/Dendrimer Nanocomposite

Abstract: A hydrotalcite clay/dendrimer nanocomposite prepared by the ionic exchange process was adsorbed from suspension of the nanocomposite on a Langmuir monolayer of arachidic acid at the air/water interface, followed by compressing and transferring onto an arachidic acid monolayer Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film on mica. For comparison, the hydrotalcite-adsorbed hybrid film was also prepared. The morphology of hydrotalcite and the nanocomposite studied by transmission electron microscopy indicated the layered structure… Show more

“…Thus a highly flattened conformation in the interlayer space was formed. Similar phenomenon was also found by previous investigations (Costa and Imae, 2004;Reis et al, 2010;Decker et al, 2011;Larraza et al, 2011;Zhu et al, 2011). In the case of G5, because of hard and less flexible structure, it was difficult to be intercalated into the interlayer space due to the steric hindrance (Niu et al, 2011).…”

“…This hybridization results in an increase of the interlayer spacing and flattening of the intercalated dendrimer molecules. The flattening of the dendrimer is also found for LB films of this hybrid 69, 70…”

“…31 These nanocomposites were then adsorbed on a Langmuir monolayer of arachidic acid at the air/water interface. 32 In a related example, the PAMAM dendrimers were used to protect silver nanoparticles, and this assembly was interacted with hydrotalcite. XRD data indicated the diffusion of the dendrimer-protected Ag nanoparticles into the hydrotalcite structure.…”
