“…Regarding the histochemical examination of the proventricular submucosal glands, the current results showed the supra‐nuclear apices of the epithelial cells lining the compound tubuloalveolar glands’ ducts were reacted intensely with PAS stain and negatively with AB stain, while those of the secretory portions, oxynticopeptic cells, were negatively stained with both stains. This result was in accordance with Zaher et al (2012), Hamdi et al (2013) and Udoumoh and Ikejiobi (2017). However, it was not consistent with that noticed by Zhu (2015) who reported that the cells lining the compound tubular glands’ ducts contain a mixture of acidic and neutral mucopolysaccharides, and Chikilian and Speroni (1996) in tinamou, who detected a moderate amount of glycoprotein in the epithelial cells of the glandular secretory portion.…”

In the red jungle fowl, the glands were a type of tubuloalveolar (Kadhim et al, ), but these glands in the yellow‐billed grosbeak and African pied crow were seen as compound tubular glands (Udoumoh & Ikejiobi, ; Zhu et al, ).
