Morphological Control and Luminescent Properties of YVO4:Eu Nanocrystals

Abstract: Rodlike, olivelike, pineapplelike, and particlelike nanocrystals of theYVO4:Eu (5 at. % Eu) were synthesized by a hydrothermal reaction with different conditions, respectively. The rodlike nanocrystal has a rectangular cross-section with about 35 x 60 nm2 and a length of about 220 nm. The olivelike nanocrystal has an equatorial diameter of approximately 40 nm and a length of approximately 200 nm. The pineapplelike nanocrystal with an equatorial diameter of approximately 200 nm and a length of approximately 300… Show more

“…Rare earth ions doped yttrium orthovanadate phosphors such as red-emitting materials YVO 4 :Eu [1][2][3][4][5][6], blue-emitting materials YVO 4 :Tm [7] and so on [8][9][10] have taken special attention due to their wide applications in lamps and displays. Moreover, recent investigations show that nanosized YVO 4 :RE phosphors have a significant promise in high definition flat display panel, such as plasma display panels (PDP) and field emitting display (FED) [1,2].…”

“…It is well known the luminescent intensity is strongly related to the morphology, crystalline, size distribution, and dimension of the luminescent materials [38][39][40]. Therefore, we controlled effectively the particle size and shape of NaY(MoO 4 ) 2 by adjusting the Y 3+ /MoO 4 2− molar ratio, and investigated the effect of morphology on the photoluminescent properties.…”

“…The same group has succeeded in controlled preparation of rod-, olive-and pineapple-shaped nanocrystals of YVO4:Eu when different templates such as V2O5 nanowires, and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) were applied. 20) In this work, we successfully prepared nanocrystalline YVO4:Eu red phosphor by a hydrothermal method using vanadium-peroxocitrate complex for the first time as a starting reagent. The basic idea of this work was to explore the potential and chemistry of the vanadium peroxo-citrate complex for the synthesis of multicomponent phosphors materials in the nanometer size range by hydrothermal method.…”
