Morphological characteristic of fiber flax seedlings regard to different pH water solution and temperature

Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the influence of different pH values of water solution (pH 4.5, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5 and 8.5) and temperatures (10, 15 and 20 ºC) on fibre flax seed germination and seedlings morphological characteristic (seedling root and stem length and total seedling length). The study was conducted in the controlled conditions by rolled filter paper in 4 replicates for 7 days. The average germination rate of flax seed was 84%. The highest germination rate was found at 20 ºC (88%) which was v… Show more

“…The result obtained is consistent with the statement of Buranjı et al (2019), who found that the minimum germination temperature for Linum species is 2-3 C, and the optimum germination temperature is 16-18 C. Similarly, Veerhoff (1940) reported in his study on two flax cultivars that germination rates decreased significantly as the germination medium temperature increased, as in our study. In addition, there is literature which states that high temperatures slow down germination in some species (Alba et al, 2016;Núñez & Calvo, 2000).…”

“…In addition, contrary to the results we obtained in the taxon L. pamphylicum subsp. olympicum , Buranjı et al (2019) obtained a better germination rate with 20°C treatment (88%) compared to 15°C treatment (85%) on L. usitatissimum . In a study by Varga et al (2020), it was determined that L. usitatissimum seeds did not differ in germination with medium temperatures of 10°C (58%) and 20°C (59%) on the 7th day of the experiment under different salt stress conditions.…”

“…It is one of the oldest fiber plants in the world and is used in the production of environmental friendly durable composite materials [2,3] and paper [4] with its non-fiber wastagess. The seeds of flax plants are directly used as food in dietary products [5], as industrial oil [6], cooking oil, and the remaining residues containing rich nutritional contents are used as a food supplement [7] and as animal feed [8].…”
