“…Both are caught by small-scale operators, and sold in local markets, although most of the catch is exported to Asia and Europe. Other benthic octopus such as Muusoctopus eicomar (Vega, 2009), Muusoctopus longibrachus (Ibáñez, Sepúlveda and Chong, 2006) and Graneledone boreopacifica are common as bycatch in the crustacean fisheries in Chile (Ibáñez et al, 2006(Ibáñez et al, , 2011(Ibáñez et al, , 2012(Ibáñez et al, , 2016. Artisanal fishers occasionally catch the smallsized octopus R. fontaniana, but despite the species does not represent a commercial resource (Osorio et al, 1979, Ibáñez et al, 2008, it constitutes an important aquaculture candidate in Chile as its small size ("baby octopus") is very attractive for Asian and European markets (Uriarte et al, 2011).…”

“…The finding of reciprocal monophyly and species delimitation analyses suggested that the subspecies G. taniwha taniwha and G. taniwha kubodera are different species. Both subspecies have similar morphological features, including suckers, gills, and wart counts (Ibáñez et al, 2012). O'Shea (1999) suggested that future descriptions of Graneledone species should provide more morphological detail (cartilaginous cluster distribution and composition, and arm sucker counts), and proposed that the only way to differentiate these two species is by the number of cartilaginous processes per cluster (i.e., G. taniwha taniwha 1-37 and G. taniwha kubodera 4-13).…”

“…Another ROV survey led to the first report of antipatharian black corals on the shelf break off La Higuera (∼29 • S, 70-107 m depth) (Gorny et al, 2018). Other methods of benthic studies in the area include studying species collected as bycatch from deep-water Patagonian Toothfish and crustacean fisheries (e.g., Ibáñez et al, 2006Ibáñez et al, , 2011Ibáñez et al, , 2012Ibáñez et al, , 2016Araya, 2013Araya, , 2016.…”
