Morphological Abnormality among Hardened Shoots of Banana cv. Rajapuri (AAB) afterin vitroMultiplication with TDZ and BAP from Excised Shoot Tips

Abstract: To compare the effect of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) and thidiazuron (TDZ) on morphological abnormal plants or per cent variant plantlets during secondary hardening period. Shoot tips of Musa spp. were cultured on MS medium supplemented with different concentrations (2.0 and 5.0 mg/L) of BAP and (0.2 and 0.3 mg/L) of TDZ and NAA 0.2 mg/L. Wherever, TDZ is present in the medium some morphological dwarf plants were observed. The maximum plant height (16.17 cm) and number of leaves (4.20) was in T 2 . Where, the ma… Show more

“…As for the role of TDZ in increasing the number of shoots, Table 1 is attributed to the fact that cytokinins have an important role in starting the formation of the lateral tissue and protein synthesis and stimulating the activity of enzymes inside the plant, which leads to an increase in the number of shoots [20]. This result agreed with what was reached [21,22]. In banana cultures, weaving From the results of the study, it was also clear that the treatment of nano-iron excelled on average with an increase in the number of shoots (Table 1 ).…”

“…But high concentrations of thidiazuron can induce appearance of abnormal forms [57]. Thidiazuron at 0.2 mg/l induces more abnormal forms than benzylaminopurine at 5 mg/l [58].…”

“…For Culture 1, onemonth-old plantlets being cultured ex vitro, and 1 to 1.5 cm of the basal part of the plants were cut and used (Figure 1a) and 1 × 1 cm in size of one-month-old clump explant was used for multiplication in Culture II (Figure 1b). The original medium was benzyl adenine (BA) at 4 ppm with a combination of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) at 2 ppm [18,19]. The explants were transferred to the medium vertically.…”

“…Two plant growth regulators, i.e. BA and TDZ, which are both cytokinins, have gained attention in the tissue culture field for their effects on plant growth and development [17][18][19]. Hence, this present study aimed to investigate in vitro effects of various concentrations of BA and TDZ applied individually on the shoot multiplication of Cavendish bananas.…”
