Morphogenesis of fruit as a subject matter for the carpological studies

Abstract: In this review, the concept of fruit morphogenesis is treated in the context of implementation of the evo-devo approach in carpology. A new viewpoint on the fruit morphogenesis is proposed and justified, comprising the pre-anthetic, as well as post-anthetic periods of fruit development, id est, development of the gynoecium, and development of the fruit itself. It is proposed to recognize ontogenetical (individual) and evolutionary (historical) aspects of fruit morphogenesis, the first of them we can study dire… Show more

“…During fruit morphogenesis in C. alpina we can observe at first a slightly convex ovary base which turns out to be flat in late stages of fruit ripening. That could be a recapitulation of a more advanced level of epigyny in the early fruit onto-morphogenesis in C. alpina (Odintsova, 2022). Hence, the hypogynous (or nearly hypogynous) condition in C. alpina is supposed to be a reversion from the epigynous one.…”

“…For examination of the anthetic and post-anthetic ovary, we followed an original guideline (Odintsova, 2023). According to this approach, we described subsequently exomorphological, micromorphological, anatomical features of the flower and fruit, and then, the process of fruit dehiscence.…”
