-The intake of the dry matter (DM), the crude protein (CP) and the metabolizable energy intake (ME) in megacalories per day (Mcal/day) were not affected by the diets. In contrast, the intake of neutral detergent fiber (NDF), in g/kg BW, increased linearly. An increasing linear effect was also observed for the ether extract (EE) intake, whereas a decreasing linear performance was observed for the non-fibrous carbohydrate (NFC) intake. The digestibility of DM, organic matter and NFC decreased linearly with the sunflower cake inclusion, whereas the digestibility of CP, NDF, and EE were not influenced by the diets. No effect was observed for the concentration of serum glucose or urea nitrogen serum. No effect was observed on the urea nitrogen serum in the hours after feeding; however, including sunflower cake in the diets resulted in a quadratic performance for the serum glucose concentrations in the hours after feeding. The average daily gain (ADG) had a decreasing linear effect, and the food conversions of the DM, CP, NDF, NFC and ME had increasing linear effects. The feeding costs decreased with the level of sunflower cake.

 RESUMOObjetivou-se determinar o melhor nível de inclusão e de substituição das tortas de dendê e amendoim, respectivamente, em dietas para cabritos ½ sangue Boer, por meio da avaliação histomorfométrica das papilas ruminais. Foram utilizados 40 cabritos ½ sangue Boer, para cada período experimental, machos, não castrados, com idade aproximada de três meses e com peso inicial de 15,01±1,76kg. Os períodos experimentais constaram de 75 dias e 72 dias. As dietas consistiram de volumoso feno de Tifton-85 e de ração em mistura completa, contendo níveis de inclusão da torta de dendê nas proporções de 0,0; 7,0; 14,0; e 21,0% com base na matéria seca; e de mistura completa, contendo níveis de substituição do farelo de soja pela torta de amendoim nas proporções de 0,0; 33,0; 66,0; e 100%, constituindo-se os tratamentos. No epitélio do rúmen, foram avaliadas altura e largura das papilas, assim como densidade papilar e espessura da parede muscular do rúmen. Entre estas, a altura das papilas, no experimento com torta de amendoim, foi a única a sofrer efeito linear decrescente (P<0,0014); as demais variáveis, tanto dos animais alimentados com torta de amendoim quanto daqueles alimentados com torta de dendê, não foram afetadas pela dieta. As médias de altura encontradas foram de 2,6 e 2,3mm para as tortas de amendoim e dendê, respectivamente. Portanto, a inclusão de até 21% de torta de dendê e a substituição de 100% de torta de amendoim no concentrado de cabritos não alteraram a morfometria das papilas ruminais. Sheep meet production systems require roughage feed of good nutritional quality. However, the production of sorghum or corn silage, besides expensive, also depends on large cultivable areas and favorable weather conditions. Thus, agro‐industrial residues have stood out as a feed alternative that contribute to the reduction of production costs and to the conservation of the environment. Fragments of the ruminal mucosa of 30 healthy lambs fed with agro‐industrial residues and slaughtered with a final weight of 36 kg were analyzed by light and scanning electron microscopy. We observed that the coproducts grape residue and wet brewery residue affected the shape, dimensions, and cytoarchitecture of the rumen epithelium in contrast to traditional sorghum silage. The rumen papillae of lambs fed grape waste were larger, and their epithelium was thinner when compared to the papillae of lambs fed wet brewery waste and sorghum silage. It can be assumed that the increased mucosal surface area of the rumen contributed to greater weight gain and reduced time to slaughter. The use of a greater variety of agro‐industrial residues as a substitute for traditional feedstuffs contributes to the increase in animal protein production in many countries, making the confinement of sheep more viable and sustainable.
