Show more

“…At least 16 viruses have been reported in the crop, among them Cassava common mosaic virus (CsCMV) (Calvert & Tresh, 2002). CsCMV is a Potexvirus, and the virus particle is 15 nm x 495 nm semiflexuous and rod-shaped (Kitajima et al, 1965). The viral genome consists of one ssRNA with 6376 nucleotides, and the coat protein is a single molecule of 21 kDa (Nolt et al, 1991;Calvert et al, 1996).…”

“…On sap inoculation, CsCMV can infect species of several families of dicotyledonous plants (Silva et al 1963;Kitajima et al 1965), including Euphorbia spp., Cnidoscolus aconitifolius (chaya), N. benthamiana (systemic host) and Chenopodium amaranticolor (local lesion host) (Costa and Kitajima, 1972a). There are no known vectors of CsCMV and the primary source of inoculum is infected planting material.…”

“…(Source: Thresh et al, 1994b;Thresh et al, 1998c. ) several families of dicotyledonous plants (Silva et al, 1963;Kitajima et al, 1965). The virus was ascribed originally to the potexvirus group that is now referred to as the genus Potexvirus.…”

“…The CsCMV virion is a semi-flexuous rod that is c. 15 × 495 nm (Kitajima et al, 1965) and contains RNA (Silva et al, 1963). Nuclear inclusions typical of the potexviruses can be found in cassava and the herbaceous host Nicotiana benthamiana.…”
