More than two-octaves span of the Stokes and anti-Stokes picosecond lasing comb in orthorhombic natural single crystals of celestine, SrSO4

Abstract: Efficient room-temperature Stokes and anti-Stokes χ (3) -nonlinear picosecond generation, which spans more than two octaves (≈ 23012 cm −1 ) has been observed in a natural crystal of orthorhombic SrSO 4 (celestine). All recorded lasing lines in the visible and near-IR regions are identified and attributed to its SRS-promoting vibration mode ω SRS ≈ 999 cm −1 .Example of a color image of the spatially distributed components of conical parametric multi-wavelength anti-Stokes RFWM lasing of a single crystal of Sr… Show more

“…We are able to implement this procedure since the our picosecond pumping well satisfies the necessary condition τ p T 2 = (π∆ν R ) −1 ≈ 0.2 ps (here T 2 and ∆ν R are the phonon dephasing time of SRSpromoting vibration mode and the linewidth of its Raman shifted line in the spontaneous Raman scattering spectrum, the last value evaluated from the data of [19]). This was done, as in our previous works (see, e.g., [20,21], using the sufficiently tested method based on the wellknown ratio g St1 ssR I thr p l SRS ≈ 30 (see, e.g., [22]) by comparing the "threshold" pump intensity I thr p , that has to be applied for a reliable detection of the first-Stokes lasing signal of the CaYAlO 4 crystal and I thr p of a reference crystal. For this purpose, YVO 4 with a known gain value of g St1 ssR ≈ 16.1 cm/GW [23] was used as reference crystal with a SRS-active length of l SRS = 13 mm.…”
