More Than 10 Years' Continuous Oral Treatment with Specific Immunoglobulin Y for the Prevention ofPseudomonas aeruginosaInfections: A Case Report

Abstract: Orange peel is a rich source of flavonoids with polymethoxyflavones as major constituents, compounds associated with potential antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor activities. We studied the effect of an orange peel extract (OPE) on intestinal tumor growth in Apc(Min/+) mice, a mouse model for human familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). The OPE contained 30% polymethoxyflavones, a mixture that included tangeretin (19.0%), heptamethoxyflavone (15.24%), tetramethoxyflavone (13.6%), nobiletin (12.49%), h… Show more

“…In addition to these advantages, a chicken can provide more than 40 g IgY per year (15). Thus far, numerous studies on IgY used for immunotherapy in clinical and experimental treatments have been reported (16)(17)(18)(19)(20). However, poly-clonal antibodies, including IgY, are prone to cross-reactions and are of inconsistent quality.…”

“…Furthermore, to evaluate the antibacterial performance of the PCMSs-IgY, S. mutans, which generally causes severe tooth demineralization and cavity formation, was chosen as the representative bacterial model in this study [33,34]. The inhibitory effect of three samples (PCMSs-IgY, pure PCMSs, and free IgY; the IgY concentration was fixed at 4.5 mg mL −1 for IgY-containing samples) were examined against S. mutans, based on the colony counting approach (Fig.…”

“…Oral administration of IgY antibodies has been tested for many years with promising results [80] to different pathogens as human rotavirus [81]; dental plaque formation by Streptococcus mutans [82,83]; enteropathogenic E. coli [84]; Helicobacter pylori [85,86]; Cryptosporidium parvum [87,88]; canine parvovirus [89]; Porphyromonas gingivalis [90]; Pseudomonas aeruginosa [91]; shrimp's white spot syndrome virus [92]; Eimeria acervulina [93]; E. tenella and E. maxima [94,95]; H5N1 e H1N1 in mice [96]; Vibrio cholerae [97]; rotavirus and norovirus [98]; Campylobacter jejuni [99][100][101]; and botulinum neurotoxins [102]. Immunotherapy as a passive immunization method to neutralize venom using purified IgY proved to be efficient for therapy protocol [103][104][105][106][107].…”
