ResumenCon base en 12 entrevistas a profundidad, realizadas a inmigrantes dominicanas insertas en los sectores reproductivos bajos del mercado de trabajo en Madrid, en 2014, se describe el lugar que ocupan la vergüenza, el orgullo y la humillación como emociones sociales clave. Desde una perspectiva sociológica, estas emociones constituyen una suerte de giroscopio que informa acerca del estado de los vínculos sociales. El contraste entre emociones morales tan dispares en sus consecuencias para el self, ofrece una mirada compleja de los distintos ribetes emocionales que encierra la migración como vivencia social. Si bien en contextos de fuerte asimetría la condición de servicio inherente al trabajo doméstico y de cuidado entraña con frecuencia sentimientos dolorosos, el éxito del proyecto económico familiar y ciertos logros en el terreno laboral son fuente de profunda satisfacción para las inmigrantes.Palabras clave: migración femenina; emociones; trabajo; vergüenza; orgullo. During the mid-1990s, teachers' emotions emerged as an area of research in the sociology of education because many teachers all over the world were reported to be unhappy, dissatisfied, stressed, frustrated, and even alienated. This implies that teachers' emotions, especially negative ones, go beyond individual factors and have become a social issue. Therefore, researchers use sociological perspectives and theories to deepen our understanding of the phenomenon. In order to advance our understanding of the social construction mechanism of teachers' emotions, this article reviews four sociological approaches of teachers' emotions: labor process of teaching in the context of education reforms, emotion management in teaching, social interaction in school settings, and teacher identity.

A central and long-standing theoretical problem in sociology concerns how differentiated social units are integrated. This problem, however, has been peripheralised since the decline of functionalism, while legitimation and regulation/power-differentials have moved to the forefront. This article argues that by reconceptualising the concept, generalised symbolic media, a robust theory of integration can be posited that does not sacrifi ce the importance of regulation (control) or legitimation (meaning). This paper extends both the Simmelian and functionalist versions of media by: (1) precisely defi ning the concept; (2) examining its two forms-a specialised institutional language and an external referent of value; (3) elucidating the three modes of orientation various media impose; and (4) extending the function of media beyond (social) exchange to include other institutional processes such as communicative action, performance, and ritualised interaction. Ultimately, a reconceptualised theory of generalised symbolic media offers sociology a mechanism that simultaneously highlights the diversity found across institutional spheres, as well as the limits humans have in dealing with the problems posed by differentiation.
