“…Additional studies also contributed conflicting evidence. Retrospective studies discovered anxiety disorders to be precursors of ED (Godart, Flament, Lecrubier, & Jeammet, 2000;Kaye, Bulik, Thornton, Barbarich, & Masters, 2004;Swinbourne, Hunt, Abbott, Russell, & Clare, 2012), but not mood disorders (Godart, Radon, Curt, Duclos, & Perdereau, 2015). Rojo-Moreno et al (2015) identified anxiety disorders, but not mood disorders, as a risk factor of later onset of ED.…”

“…Anxious and depressive symptoms are frequent among patients with either AN, BN, or BED (Brand‐Gothelf, Leor, Apter, & Fennig, ; Bühren et al, ; Godart et al, ; Kountza, Garyfallos, Ploumpidis, Varsou, & Gkiouzepas, ), and accordingly to network analysis they appear to play a central role in mental health of such patients. Since a network central nodes have been suggested to be ideal treatment targets (Costantini et al, ), and since evidence supports depression (Franko et al, ) as well as anxiety (Carrot et al, ) as predictors of outcome in EDs, even after controlling for duration of illness (Keski‐Rahkonen et al, ), both should be considered when selecting the best treatment for patients with clinically relevant depressive and anxious symptoms.…”

“…Patients with both restricting and bulimic-purgative AN have relevant comorbid depressive and anxious symptoms (Brand-Gothelf, Leor, Apter, & Fennig, 2014;Buhren et al, 2014;Godart et al, 2015;Kountza et al, 2017), and such symptoms alongside with ineffectiveness and interpersonal sensitivity appear to play a central role in the complex network of psychopathologic symptoms of AN. Centrality measures estimate how relevant is a node to maintain stability within a network (Costantini et al, 2014;Epskamp et al, 2017).…”
