The challenges faced by the Ukrainian state require additional attention to the issues of STEM education. The analysis of materials related to the relevant phenomenon indicates the need for a conceptual and comprehensive approach to the development of STEM education. In this regard, research attention is focused on the concept of a development education environment and its significance for STEM-education.Taking into account the above mentioned, the purpose of the work is to conceptualize the idea of a STEM development environment and outline the prospects for its practical implementation. Achieving the specified purpose necessitated the solution of two practical tasks in the work: 1) disclosure of the content of the idea and the concept corresponding to it "STEM development environment"; 2) determination of the prospects of the given idea.The author's definition of the concept of "STEM development environment" as a complex educational space that encompasses all subjects of the education process and the system of relations between them, as well as a set of educational technologies, forms of organization, and material and technical conditions of implementation, is proposed on the basis of the processed materials, education activity, the vector and content of which is determined by the ideas and approaches of STEM education, and the desired results are formed STEM competencies. The structural organization of such an environment and the features of each of its components are shown separately: cognitive, motivational, operational-activity, and organizational-logistical.The position is argued that the conceptual definition of the specified phenomenon of the STEM development environment and its structural organization provides an opportunity to outline specific tasks of the theoretical and methodological plan, the solution of which will ensure the real future of STEM education in educational practice. In addition, it was established that the appeal to the idea of a STEM development environment has methodological, organizational and innovative perspectives.
