Monte Carlo and analytical calculations for characterization of gas bremsstrahlung in ILSF insertion devices

Abstract: Gas bremsstrahlung is generated in high energy electron storage rings through interaction of the electron beam with the residual gas molecules in vacuum chamber. In this paper, Monte Carlo calculation has been performed to evaluate radiation hazard due to gas bremsstrahlung in the Iranian Light Source Facility (ILSF) insertion devices. Shutter/stopper dimensions is determined and dose rate from the photoneutrons via the giant resonance photonuclear reaction which takes place inside the shutter/stopper is also … Show more

“…It is noteworthy that the calculated radiation shielding thicknesses are thick enough to protect synchrotron radiation as the energy of synchrotron radiation is significantly lower than that of bremsstrahlung. The detailed calculation for GB production at ILSF IDS and beamlines can be found in [1] and [23].…”

“…Based on the present design, firstly, a linear accelerator increases the energy of electrons up to 150 MeV, and then the electrons are accelerated in a booster ring up to 3 GeV. Finally, a synchrotron storage ring stores the electron beam with a current of 400 mA and a lifetime of about 7 h in a vacuum chamber of 1.33 × 10 −7 Pa (1 nTorr) pressure [1]. The main parameters of the ILSF pre-injector and rings used in this study are presented in table 1.…”
