Monomer sequence design at two solvent interface enables the synthesis of highly photoactive carbon nitride

Abstract: The design of a supramolecular assembly in a two solvent interface is used to tailor the morphology, chemical and electronic properties of carbon nitride. This approach opens many opportunities for the design of C–N based materials.

“…The pyrolysis of cyanuric acid-melamine-creatine supramolecular assembly was performed at 550 °C for 4 h in nitrogen atmosphere. [111] Hollow tubes assemblies transformed to thin, porous nanosheets of g-C 3 N 4 by the introduction of various amounts of creatine (0.05, 0.1, 0.25 % respectively) as shown in the SEM image (Figure 10a-d). Creatine helped to increase the specific surface area of the nanosheets by interlinking cyanuric acid-melamine lattices.…”

“…As a result, the RhB degradation efficiency of g -CN(1.0) (0.352 min −1 ) was almost 10 times higher than that of the BCN ( Figure 11 c). Inspired by traditional liquid-liquid interfacial polymerization [ 151 ], interfacial supramolecular organization on two non-miscible solvents emerged in the modification of CN structure [ 152 , 153 ]. The choice of solvents plays an important role in the formation of supramolecular assembly at the interface of the solvents.…”
