Monocyte-to-albumin ratio as a novel predictor of long-term adverse outcomes in patients after percutaneous coronary intervention

Abstract: Background: Monocyte count and serum albumin (Alb) have been proven to be involved in the process of systemic inflammation. Therefore, we investigated the prognostic value of monocyte-to-albumin ratio (MAR) in patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods:We enrolled a total of 3561 patients in this study from January 2013 to December 2017. They were divided into two groups according to MAR cutoff value (MAR < 0.014, n = 2220; and MAR ≥ 0.014, n = 1119) as evaluated by receive… Show more

“…17 At the same time, the depiction of an all-cause mortality predictive value of monocyte/albumin ratio in settings of percutaneous coronary interventions by Zhang et al, is equally noteworthy. 30 Delving into the pathophysiology, the incremental value of MHAR over MHR and albumin possibly highlights a perilous liaison of malnutrition and inflammation. MHR derives its prognostic value from the combined proinflammatory potential of monocyte activation and the anti-inflammatory effects of HDL.…”

“…And the secondary endpoint included MACEs, defined as the combination of cardiac death, recurrent MI, and target vessel reconstruction, and MACCEs that defined as MACEs plus stroke. 22 All the end points have been described carefully in the previous study. 22 All the events were evaluated and determined by the adjudication committee who were trained in advance and blinded to patients…”

“…The secondary endpoints were MACEs-defined as the combination of cardiac death, recurrent myocardial infarction (RMI) and target vessel revascularization-and MACCEs-defined as MACEs plus stroke. 22 Deaths were considered a result of a cardiac condition unless a definite noncardiac cause of death was identified. Stroke was defined as a sudden onset of vertigo, numbness, aphasia or dysarthria caused by cerebrovascular disease, including hemorrhage, embolism, thrombosis or aneurysm rupture, and persisting for >24 h. RMI was defined as a new Q wave and an increased concentration of creatine kinase isoenzyme MB to more than five times the upper limit of the normal range within 48 h after the PCI, or as a new Q waves or that concentration of creatine kinase isoenzyme MB increased above exceeding the upper limit of the normal range plus ischemic symptoms or signs if occurring >48 h after procedure.…”
