Abstract: Background: The pathogenesis of Takayasu arteritis (TAK) is poorly understood. Although a macrophage-rich vessel wall granulomatous inflammation is a hallmark of TAK pathology, no previous studies have analyzed the monocytes’ role in the pathogenesis of the disease.
