“…For instance, platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) alpha receptor (Pringle and Richardson, 1993;Oumesmar et al, 1997), monoclonal antibody A2B5 (Eisenbarth et al, 1979), and the rat NG2 proteoglycan (Dawson et al, 2000) are present in early oligodendrocyte precursor cells, although some of them are also present in other glial or neuronal cell types. Many myelin genes (Jordan et al, 1989) or antigenic markers for myelin/oligodendrocyte-specific components such as monoclonal antibody O4 (Sommer and Schachner, 1981), galactocerebrosides (GalC) , proteolipid protein isoform DM20 (Dickinson et al, 1996), 2Ј,3Ј-cyclic nucleotide-3Ј-phohydrolase (CNP; Sprinkle et al, 1987), and myelin basic protein (MBP; Kies et al, 1972) recognize both myelin and oligodendrocyte cell bodies. In the present study, we used a specific ABCA2-antibody combined with several selected glial markers to demonstrate that ABCA2 begins to be expressed in spinal cord oligodendrocyte progenitors in situ and continues to be expressed into adulthood in mature oligodendrocytes during postnatal development of rats.…”
