“…The virulence [4] and a number of temperature-inducible features of these bacteria, such as the production of V and W antigens [5], Ca++-dependent growth at 37~ in vitro [5,7], adherence to Hep-2 cells [15] and autoagglutination [ 12] have been associated with the presence of a 40-46 Mdal plasmid. This plasmid codes also for the temperature-dependent expression of at least five outer membrane proteins (OMPs) of molecular mass of approximately 200 kd, 47 kd, 41 kd, 34-36 kd and 25 kd [2,19] which show related antigenic features as documented by immunoblot analysis using hyperimmune sera [9]. The plasmidencoded OMPs expressed by Y. enterocolitica are similar in size when compared with those expressed by Y. pseudotuberculosis [ 1,19].…”

“…Although Yops of all three pathogenic Yersinia spp. are closely related, they can vary in size (39,41). YopM (ranging from 49 kDa to 57 kDa) exhibits significant homology with several domains of the human platelet glycoprotein GPIba (59,73).…”

“…Following three booster immunizations, splenocytes of these * Corresponding author. mice were fused with Ag 8.653 myeloma cells and resulting hybridomas were screened for reactivity with tachyzoites and bradyzoites by immunoblotting and immunofluorescence (6). Tachyzoites for all experiments were harvested from infected P388D1-macrophage cell cultures as described previously (5).…”

“…Cysts were separated from brains of mice, infected intraperitoneally with 103 tachyzoites 6 weeks before, by continuous density gradient centrifugation as previously described (4). For immunoblotting, lysates of 3 x 106 tachyzoites per well or 200 cysts per well were separated on 11.8% acrylamide gels by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) (6,9). Following electrophoresis, proteins were electrophoretically transferred onto 0.45-pm-pore-size nitrocellulose membranes.…”
