Monochorionic diamniotic in vitro fertilization twins have a decreased incidence of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome

Abstract: The significantly lower proportion of TTTS found in IVF-conceived twins may suggest a different embryological process that lies at the core of IVF conception of monozygotic twinning.

“…The recipient twin develops cardiomyopathy and abnormal diastolic and systolic function [70][71][72][73] . Interestingly, MCDA twins conceived after eSET splitting may experience less TTTS [74] . This suggests a potential different embryological process inherent to ART-conceived monozygotic twinning.…”

“…This in agreement with the results of earlier studies 13,14,16,28 . One study even reported a lower incidence of TTTS in MCDA pregnancies conceived after IVF 37 , but the authors excluded pregnancies that resulted in the loss of one or both twins, which is often the result of TTTS.…”

“…Prof. Kagan conducted studies to identify twin related structural and chromosomal complications [10] and described new methods that have been adopted by many in the world. He and his team have pointed out to the impact of chorionicity and maternal serum markers on Down Syndrome screening in twin pregnancies in the 1 st trimester and identified the discordance in nuchal translucency thickness in the prediction of severe TTTS [31]. Prof. Burrell in Spain also identified many genetic complications in twin pregnancies.…”
