Monitoring the Control of Sexually Transmissible Infections and Blood-Borne Viruses: Protocol for the Australian Collaboration for Coordinated Enhanced Sentinel Surveillance (ACCESS)

Abstract: BackgroundNew biomedical prevention interventions make the control or elimination of some blood-borne viruses (BBVs) and sexually transmissible infections (STIs) increasingly feasible. In response, the World Health Organization and governments around the world have established elimination targets and associated timelines. To monitor progress toward such targets, enhanced systems of data collection are required. This paper describes the Australian Collaboration for Coordinated Enhanced Sentinel Surveillance (AC… Show more

“…Data from the Australian Collaboration for Coordinated Enhanced Sentinel Surveillance of Sexually Transmissible Infections and Blood Borne Viruses (ACCESS) database were used to determine the number retained in care and calculate proportions on treatment and VS [18]. ACCESS is a national sexual health surveillance network that collects and collates routine deidentified data from over 120 sexual health clinics, general practice clinics, community health services, hospitals, and pathology laboratories across Australia, and records are anonymously linked between sites [18]. The ACCESS network collects demographic, testing, diagnosis, and treatment data to monitor the sexual health of high-risk populations.…”

“…PRONTO! is a participating site in the Australian Collaboration for Co-ordinated Enhanced Sentinel Surveillance (ACCESS) network, with all HIV and STI test results automatically extracted from the clinics Patient Management System to this system using GRAHNITE software [17,18]. Clients are invited to complete a behavioural survey in the waiting area prior to each consultation.…”
