Objective. To assess the levels of parasitism by nematodes and trematodes, as well as the hepatic histopathological alterations present in Mugil incilis (Lisa) from Totumo marsh, North of Colombia. Materials and methods. Between July 2004 and June 2005, 500 fish were collected at Totumo Marsh (75°16'W and 10°44´N), North of Colombia. Morphometric and parasitic parameters were determined for each specimen, and the hepatic histopathological status of the liver was assessed by analyzing liver slides stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Results. Nematode larvae isolated from Mugil incilis corresponded to Contracaecum spp. Parasite prevalence was 60.49%. Parasitic mean abundance and mean intensity were 4.8±1.05 and 7.02±1.49, nematodes per fish, respectively. The correlation between nematode mean abundance and fish length was significant and positive (r=0.525, p<0.0001), but negative for condition factor (r=-0.109, p=0.014). Hepatic histopathological analysis revealed the presence of encapsulated trematode larvae as the main finding. However, the presence of inflammation, granulomas, steatosis and necrosis, were also registered as secondary alterations. Conclusions. Lisas collected at Totumo Marsh are parasitized with nematodes and trematodes. These fish have different histopathological lesions in the liver tissue, being the most important the presence of trematode encapsulated cyst that generate inflammatory reactions, and negatively correlate with morphometric markers of fish health.Key words: Anisakiasis, fishes, nematode, trematode, zoonoses (Source: CAB). Evaluar los niveles de parasitismo por nemátodos y tremátodos, así como las alteraciones histopatológicas hepáticas presentes en Mugil incilis (Lisa) de la Ciénaga del Totumo, Norte de Colombia. Materiales y métodos. Entre Julio de 2004 y Junio de 2005, 500 peces fueron recolectados en la ciénaga del Totumo (75°16'W y 10°44´N), norte de Colombia. Índices morfométricos y parasitarios fueron determinados para cada espécimen, y el estatus histopatológico hepático fue evaluado analizando cortes de hígado teñidos con hematoxilina y eosina. As a part of an exposure and effect monitoring conducted along the river Mureş, Western Romania in 2004, the health status of two indigenous fish species, sneep (Chondrostoma nasus) and European chub (Leuciscus cephalus) was investigated upstream and downstream the city of Arad. In fish, histopathology was assessed in liver and gills, and heavy metals (cadmium, copper, lead and zinc) were analyzed in liver samples. In both fish species, histopathological reactions in the gills (epithelial lifting, focal proliferation of epithelial cells of primary and secondary lamellae and resulting fusion of secondary lamellae, hyperplasia and hypertrophy of mucous cells, focal inflammation and necrosis of epithelial cells) were most severe at the two sampling sites upstream Arad city, which were shown to be polluted by copper, cadmium, faecal coliforms and streptococci in a parallel study. At these two sites, also histopathology in the liver of L. cephalus was more prominent than at the two downstream sites. In C. nasus, symptoms in the liver (focal inflammation with lymphocytic infiltrations, macrophage aggregates and single cell necrosis) were also highly pronounced at the sampling site located directly downstream the municipal sewage treatment plant of Arad. With the exception of copper accumulation in L. cephalus caught at the most upstream sampling site, in both fish species cadmium and copper accumulation were exceptionally high and did not differ significantly between the four sampling sites.

The topic of this work was based on the assessment of aquatic systems quality related to the persistent metal pollution. The use of aquatic organisms as bioindicators of metal pollution allowed the obtaining of valuable information about the acute and chronic toxicity on common Romanian aquatic species and the estimation of the environment quality. Laboratory toxicity results showed that Cd, "s, Cu, Zn, Pb, Ni, Zr, and Ti have toxic to very toxic efects on Cyprinus carpio, and this observation could raise concerns because of its importance as a ishery resource. The benthic invertebrates' analysis showed that bioaccumulation level depends on species, type of metals, and sampling sites. The metal analysis from the shells of three mollusk species showed that the metals involved in the metabolic processes (Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, and Mg) were more accumulated than the toxic ones (Pb, Cd). The bioaccumulation factors of metals in benthic invertebrates were subunitary, which indicated a slow bioaccumulation process in the studied aquatic ecosystems. The preliminary aquatic risk assessment of Ni, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, "s, and Zn on C. carpio revealed insigniicant to moderate risk considering the measured environmental concentrations, acute and long-term efects and environmental compartment.Keywords: metals, ish, crustaceans, benthic invertebrates, toxicity, LC 0, M"TC, bioaccumulation, risk © 2017 The Author(s). IntroductionMetals are constantly released in aquatic systems from natural and anthropic sources such as industrial and domestic sewage discharges, mining, farming, electronic waste, anthropic accidents, navigation traic as well as climate change events like loods (Figure ) [1, 2]. Moreover, metals are easily dissolved in water and are subsequently absorbed by aquatic organisms such as ish and invertebrates inducing a wide range of biological efects, from being essential for living organisms to being lethal, respectively. In spite of the fact that some metals are essential at low concentrations for living organisms, such as (i) micronutrients (Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Co, Mo, Cr, and Se) and (ii) macronutrients (Ca, Mg, Na, P, and S) at higher concentrations, they could induce toxic efects disturbing organisms' growth, metabolism, or reproduction with consequences to the entire trophic chain, including on humans [3].
