Monitoring Mangrove Forest Degradation in Mangrove Nature Tourism Park Angke Kapuk, North Jakarta, Indonesia Using NDVI

Abstract

The mangroves in Muara Angke, North Jakarta, constitute an integral part of the coastal ecosystem with a significant role in supporting environmental sustainability. The Angke Kapuk Nature Reserve, as a mangrove conservation area, faces various challenges of degradation that potentially threaten mangrove growth. This research aims to analyze the degradation of mangrove forests in the Angke Kapuk Nature Reserve using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index. The method employed in this study is the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The findings of this study reveal changes in the area classification, amounting to 13.16 hectares, at the years 2018 and 2023. The decrease in area also suggests the occurrence of forest degradation. Accuracy testing, using a confusion matrix against ground check results, yields an overall accuracy of 80%, with a kappa index of 76.2. The acceptable accuracy level is considered to be above 80%. Monitoring efforts for mangrove forest areas can be undertaken as a preventive measure to address mangrove degradation issues.
