Monitoring and population changes of Tuta absoluta (Meyrick, 1917) on tomato under greenhouse conditions in an arid expanse of south-eastern Algeria

Abstract:
The population changes of Tuta absoluta was surveyed during three growing seasons in greenhouse tomatoes in Biskra. Introduced in 2009 for the first time, it seems to be well established on tomato crops in Biskra; while their natural enemies remained lacking, due possibly to pesticides overuse. All pest stages were present on tomato plants during the three cropping seasons. Important numbers of males were captured during the first growing season and the least during the third grow… Show more

“…Besides Tennent, who produced a systematic and ecological list of butterflies (1996), Samraoui (1998) inventoried butterflies occupying the most interesting habitats in North-eastern Algeria. Other investigations were made like those of Chakali et al (2002); Frahtia (2005); Remini and Moulaï (2015); Saad and Bounaceur (2018); Kacha et al (2017Kacha et al ( , 2020; Allache and Demnati (2020); Berkane et al (2019Berkane et al ( , 2021 and recently Laref et al (2022) in the Edough Forest Massif.…”

“…The tomato leaf miner, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick, 1917) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), is a small moth, native to South America that feeds mainly on tomato and a few other plant species. It has been reported as a limiting tomato pest all over South America (de Souza and Reis, 1986), and more recently, it has spread to and become one of the most important pests of greenhouse tomato crops in Mediterranean countries, the Middle East, eastern, central and western Europe, and North Africa (Allache et al, 2015). Damage is caused by larvae, which feed on plant foliage and fruits and can cause commercial losses of up to 100% (Potting, 2010;Bloem and Spaltenstein, 2011).…”
