Monitoring and management of the construction of an earth embankment by means of a computer-based varying numerical model

Abstract

The technology of constructing earth embankments has specific features related to the special properties of soils as construction materials.When designing embankments the average indices characterizing the composition and state of soils are used in calculating the stability.Under real conditions, especially when it is necessary to excavate and place large volumes of earth materials, deviations of the characteristics of the soils from the design values become inevitable. In connection with this arise two types of problems: on the one hand, it is necessary to organize a system for checking the quality of the fill. On the other hand, it is necessary to realize the results of the check, i.e., to analyze the situation and make prompt decisions.
