Monitoring and damping unbalanced magnetic pull due to eccentricity fault in induction machines: A review

Abstract: Condition monitoring can diagnose the inception of fault mechanisms in induction motors, thus avoiding failure and expensive repairs. Therefore, there is a strong need to develop an efficient condition monitoring. The main target is to achieve a relatively low cost and/or non-invasive system which is still powerful in terms of monitoring for online detection of developing faults. The presented paper addresses rotor eccentricity faults and studies conventional monitoring techniques for induction motors. In orde… Show more

“…Currently the equalizing winding, damping winding, parallel circuit, magnetic saturation and slot/pole combination are mainly adopted in the electromagnetic vibration suppression. The parallel circuit and damping winding methods are the effective approaches that have been extensively investigated [27].…”

“…Khan et al [21] presented a multilevel design optimization framework to improve the efficiency of the proposed method by combining it with several techniques, such as design of experiments and approximate models. The electromagnetic vibration of electrical machines has always been a hot topic in the mechanical discipline and electrical discipline fields, and there exist rich research results. The existing reviews Energies 2018, 11, 1779 3 of 33 of electromagnetic vibration are basically summarized from the view of fault diagnosis [22][23][24][25][26][27], and summaries from the perspective of dynamics are rather insufficient. With the continuous progress of research, some new technologies and methods are emerging.…”

“…If the electromagnetic behavior could be predicted very accurately, this will help to adjust the manufacturing process in order to obtain higher efficiency and reliability of induction machines, especially for those operating under formidable environment conditions. In addition, analyzing the electromagnetic circuit of the induction machine is necessary to identify faults, because the faults produce one or more indicative signs in most cases, such as increased losses, torque pulsation, and unbalanced air-gap voltages and line currents [3].…”

“…Therefore, the authors proposed a method to further reduce the UMP through rotor slip control by using the non-linear characteristic of UMP over rotor slip [14]. UMP calculation can be categorised into numerical and analytical methods [15]. Numerical methods have better accuracy then analytical methods in calculating the UMP of SCIMs because analytical methods cannot calculate the effect from circulating currents.…”
