Moloney lymphoma cells express a polyprotein contanining the GAG gene‐coded p15 and the moloney leukemia virus‐induced cell surface antigen (MCSA)

Abstract: The relationship between MCSA and the viral structural proteins in YAC Moloney lymphoma cells was further investigated by using membrane immunofluorescence and immunoadsorbent columns. As previously observed, MCSA showed only minimal capping and thereby differed in behaviour from gp70, p30 and p12 virion antigens. Whereas antibody-induced capping of gp70 did not change the membrane distribution of MCSA, co-capping was observed between MCSA and p30 and p12 gag protein antigens. This indicated that, whereas MCSA… Show more

“…More recently, the partial purification and biochemical characterization of TATAs from diverse sources have provided strong evidence that TATAs can be separated from normal histocompatibility antigens Natori et al, 1977a, b ) , apparently have a different chemical structure (chang et al, 1979;DeLeo et al, 1979) and, when solubilized, are not obligatorily associated in stable complexes with histocompatibility antigens. Similar results have been reported for tumor-associated antigens (TAA) detected by assays other than the ability to protect against tumor challenge in vivo (Karande et al, 1979;Kurth et al, 1979).…”

“…Moloney murine leukemia virus-induced cell surface antigen could also be present on the surfaces of the RAW117 cells. This antigen is distinct from Moloney murine leukemia virus antigens (66,67) and can also exist as a precursor containing gag proteins (68). In addition to Abelson antigen and the cell surface antigen, other transformation-(69) and tumor-associated (70,71) common antigens may determine host defense mechanisms.…”

“…4. The migration chambers were filled with medium containi canavalin A (Pharmacia) (10 gg/ml) or purified MCSA (Moloney cell surface antigen) (; prepared as described (37). Where indicated, 100 international units per milliliter of moi (IFM), IFN-al (E. coli) (IFC), or Namalwa IFN (IFN) were added.…”
