Molecularly tagged genes and quantitative trait loci in cucumber with recommendations for QTL nomenclature

Abstract: Cucumber, Cucumis sativus L. (2n = 2x = 14), is an important vegetable crop worldwide. It was the first specialty crop with a publicly available draft genome. Its relatively small, diploid genome, short life cycle, and self-compatible mating system offers advantages for genetic studies. In recent years, significant progress has been made in molecular mapping, and identification of genes and QTL responsible for key phenotypic traits, but a systematic review of the work is lacking. Here, we conducted an extensiv… Show more

“…The detected locus was named in accordance with the following scheme: the abbreviation of HT, chromosome (Chr.) number, and locus number [35]. Since the preliminary mapping region was still large, polymorphic Indel markers were used to narrow down the region.…”

“…However, the names of the QTL are confusing in the literature. For convenience, following recommendations for QTL naming by Pan et al (2020) and Wang et al (2020), here we developed a QTL nomenclature for naming QTL for seed-related traits, which are presented in Table 1. In brief, SL, SWD, ST, and 100SWT stood for the seed length, seed width, seed thickness and 100-seed weight, respectively.…”

“…Downy mildew was also devastating in cucumber. Many researches on downy mildew in cucumber have been reported [10][11][12]. Zhang et al (2013) constructed the F 2 and F 2:3 population based on the cross of inbred line K8 and K18 and identi ed 5 QTLs (dm1.1, dm5.1, dm5.2, dm5.3 and dm6.1) associated with DM on the Chr1, Chr5 and Chr6, respectively.…”
