“…We compiled mtDNA identifications of A. jamaicensis, A. planirostris, and A. schwartzi from throughout the Neotropics using the sequence data presented here and mtDNA-based identifications previously reported or summarized (20,22,26,27). A. jamaicensis haplotypes were distributed west of the Andes Mountains in South America (n = 15), throughout Central America (n = 22), and throughout the Greater and Lesser Antilles (n = 57).…”

“…Phylogenetic analyses were performed using PAUP v4.0b10 (63). Species identifications were confirmed by morphological analyses and by comparison with previously published genetic data (20,26,27).…”

“…The bat flies were identified with the aid of a stereoscopic microscope, using dichotomous keys and descriptions (WENZEL et al, 1966;WENZEL, 1976;GUERRERO, 1994GUERRERO, , 1995GUERRERO, , 1996GUERRERO, , 1998CARVALHO, 2001;MILLER;TSCHAPKA, 2001). The nomenclature followed Dick and Graciolli (2006) for Streblidae and Gardner (2007) for bats, except for Dermanura which has been elevated to generic status (REDONDO et al, 2008;SOLARI et al, 2009). The vouchers were confirmed by Dr. Gustavo Graciolli and were deposited in the zoological reference collection of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul in the city of Campo Grande, Brazil.…”

“…We included a thorough analysis of the Cytb in a large geographic sampling in South America, such as has been shown to be useful in recovering mammalian phylogeny and exposing cryptic species (Baker and Bradley 2006;Redondo et al 2008). Sequence alignments were performed using Clustal W 2.1 (Larkin et al 2007) and edited or concatenated, or both, when necessary with the Alignment Explorer function implemented in MEGA 5.1 (Tamura et al 2011).…”
