ObjectivesCompounds PH2 and PH5 are distereoisomers of novel indane compounds, synthesised as analogues of secondary metabolites of the fern, Onychium. In this study, we compare their effects on a variety of inflammatory models.MethodsIn an effort to extend our knowledge of their anti‐inflammatory profile, we have investigated their activity in two models of delayed‐type hypersensitivity (DTH); the methylated bovine serum albumin model (mBSA) and the oxazolone contact hypersensitivity (CHS) model, on IL2 release from Jurkat cells and in the dextran sulphate sodium (DSS) murine model of inflammatory bowel disease.Key findingsBoth diastereoisomers are equipotent in reducing paw swelling in the mBSA model and in inhibiting interleukin (IL) 2 release from Jurkat cells. They are equally ineffective in the oxazolone contact hypersensitivity model (CHS). Only the diastereoisomer, PH5, protects against DSS‐induced colitis and of its two enantiomers, only the S,S‐enantiomer, PH22, possesses this activity. PH2 is ineffective in the DSS model.ConclusionsThe results suggest that the beneficial effect of PH5, and its enantiomer PH22, in the DSS model is a consequence of an action on a target specific to the colitis model. The implications of such data suggest an unknown target in this disease model that may be exploited to therapeutic advantage.

Polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) is a biodegradable copolymer. It has many applications in the pharmaceuticals and biomedical industries, but its degradation and stability is a major concern. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of the Trivedi Effect® on the physicochemical and thermal properties of PLGA using modern analytical techniques. The PLGA sample was divided into control and Biofield Energy Treated parts. The control sample did not obtain the Biofield Energy Treatment, whereas the treated PLGA was received the Trivedi Effect®-Consciousness Energy Healing Treatment remotely by a renowned Biofield Energy Healer, Alice Branton. The particle size values of the treated PLGA were increased by 8.97%(d10), 8.79%(d50), 4.72%(d90), and 6.61%{D(4,3)}; thus, the surface area of treated PLGA was significantly decreased by 6.84% compared with the control sample. The latent heat of evaporation and fusion of the treated PLGA were significantly increased by 29.60% and 230.93%, respectively compared with the control sample. The residue amount was significantly increased by 21.99% in the treated PLGA compared to the control sample. The maximum thermal degradation temperature of the treated PLGA was increased by 2.30% compared with the control sample. It was concluded that the Trivedi Effect®-Consciousness Energy Healing Treatment might have generated a new form of PLGA which may show better powder flow ability, thermal stability, and minimize the hydrolysis of the ester linkages of PLGA. This improved quality of PLGA would be a better choice for the pharmaceutical formulations (i.e., the drug like simvastatin, amoxicillin, and minocycline loaded PLGA nanoparticles) and manufacturing of biomedical devices, i.e., grafts, sutures, implants, surgical sealant films, prosthetic devices, etc., in the industry using it as a raw material.

Complementary and Alternative Medicine: Impact of Biofield Energy Treatment on the Physicochemical and Thermal Properties of Withania somnifera Root Extract

Withania somnifera (WS) is a popular health supplement, which is used in many neutraceutical and pharmaceutical formulations for the overall good health, improves the quality of life, along with the prevention and treatment of numerous diseases. In this study, the impact of the Consciousness Energy Healing Treatment (the Trivedi Effect ® ) on the physicochemical and thermal properties of WS root extract was evaluated using modern analytical techniques. The test sample WS root extract was divided and termed as control and Biofield Energy Treated sample. The control sample did not receive the Biofield Energy Treatment; whereas, the treated WS root extract received the Consciousness Energy Healing Treatment by a well-known Biofield Energy Healer, Dahryn Trivedi. The particle size values of the treated WS root extract powder sample were altered by -7.92% (d10), -5.32% (d50), and -0.36% (d90) 1.02% {D(4,3)}; thus, the specific surface area was significantly increased by 5.31% compared with the control sample. The evaporation temperature and latent heat of evaporation of the treated WS root extract were significantly increased by 11.24% and 21.34%, respectively compared with the control sample. The total weight loss in the treated WS root extract was decreased by 4.3%; however, the residue amount was significantly increased by 25.02% compared with the control sample. The experimental results concluded that the Trivedi Effect ® -Consciousness Energy Healing Treatment might have altered particle size, surface area, and thermal properties of WS root extract which would show better solubility, dissolution, absorption, bioavailability, and thermal stability compared to the control sample. This new form of WS root extract would be helpful to design more efficacious neutraceutical/pharmaceutical formulations for rejuvenate the body, restricting the aging process, immune
