Molecular Structure and Vibrational Spectra of Mixed MDyX4 (M = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs; X = F, Cl, Br, I) Vapor Complexes: A Computational and Matrix-Isolation Infrared Spectroscopic Study

Abstract: The structures, energetic, and vibrational properties of MDyX(4) (M = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs; X = F, Cl, Br, I) mixed alkali halide/dysprosium halide complexes have been investigated by a joint computational and experimental, matrix-isolation Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopic (MI-IR), study. According to our DFT computations for the complexes with heavier halides and alkali metals the ground-state structure is the tridentate isomer; while at high temperatures the bidentate structural isomer dominates. The su… Show more

“…The operation of metal halide lamps is an example in which lanthanide trihalides are involved. Magdi and her co-workers carried out computations on a series of complexes of dysprosium trihalides with alkali halides, MDyX 4 [19][20][21]. Figure 7a shows the PES of the NaDyBr 4 complex.…”

“…An interesting aspect of their study was that while at zero K the tridentate structure is the minimum energy structure, at the high operational temperature of the lamps, the bidentate structure becomes dominant (Fig. 7b) [21].…”

“…S9b, ESI†), which is probably attributed to ν Li−I . 7 In the Raman spectra, the ν Pb–I band locates at 101 cm −1 for x = 0 and 106 cm −1 for all co-doped hybrids (Fig. 2a) and in the Raman spectrum of layered MnI 2 , the ν Mn–I band locates at 111 cm −1 , 8 very close to the ν Pb–I band (∼106 cm −1 ), and both the ν Mn–I and ν Pb–I bands may overlap together in the co-doped hybrids.…”
