Molecular phylogeny, biogeography and speciation of the mushroom species Pleurotus cystidiosus and allied taxa

Abstract: Members of the mushroom genus Pleurotus form a heterogeneous group of edible species of high commercial importance. Subgenus Coremiopleurotus includes taxa that produce synnematoid fructifications (anamorphic state). Several species, subspecies and varieties have been described in Coremiopleurotus. These taxa are discriminated by minute morphological differences and correspond to Pleurotus cystidiosus sensu lato. A worldwide geographical sampling of Coremiopleurotus taxa and nucleotide sequence data from the i… Show more

“…Ribosomal genes are most often employed in fungal phylogenetic analysis. Within the rDNA locus, the ITS region has been particularly useful for analysis of closely related fungal species in many genera (Zervakis et al, 2004;Stefani and Berube 2006). The rRNA gene unit is composed of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and the sequences of the coding rRNAs.…”

“…At the molecular level, both of these specie also retained their grouping based on morphological data. The results depicted that, there is strong correlation between molecular and morphological criteria (Zervakis et al, 2004). Jusuf (2010) suggested that, mushrooms belonging to Pleurotus specie have common growing habbit that's why they may have common genetic background.…”
