Dihydroartemisinin (DHA) is an artemisinin derivative compounds that employs as malaria drug. Extraction and purification artemisinin derivatives by liquid extraction utilize organic solvent and results in mixtures of compounds requiring further purification process. In this study, core-shell magnetic molecular imprinted polymer (Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @MIP) has been synthesized for DHA isolation. Methacrylic acid (MAA) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) were employed as monomer and cross-linker, respectively. Fe 3 O 4 was modified by tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) to enhance stability and prevent aggregation. Nonimprinted polymer (Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @NIP) was also prepared as a comparison. The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) represented O O stretching of O O C bond (1,2,4-trioxane ring) at 825 cm À1 denoting that DHA has been successfully attached to MIP. Meanwhile, the morphology of Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @MIP and Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @NIP revealed uniform spherical-like form particle due to core-shell magnetic modification. The Brunaeur-Emmett-Teller (BET) revealed S BET of Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @MIP and Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @-NIP was 70.16 and 19.56 m 2 g À1 , respectively. The prepared materials owned a superparamagentic behavior as indicated by narrow loop and low remanence and coercivity.The binding study indicated that Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @MIP and Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @NIP were achieved optimum condition at pH 4, contact time 90 min and initial concentration 8 mg L À1 with adsorption capacity (q exp ) 1.026 mg g À1 for Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @MIP and 0.806 for Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @NIP. The selectivity of Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @MIP was more than 60% in all over the ratio. The prepared MIP exhibited good selectivity toward DHA with imprinting factor (IF) 2.14 and selectivity coefficient (α) 3.43. The percent adsorption of Fe 3 O 4 @-SiO 2 @MIP did not changed after three times adsorption-desorption cycles. The result exhibited that Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 @MIP could effectively be used for DHA separation.

The most common method of treating palm oil mill effluent (POME) is by using various types of bacteria communities. However, the utilization of microalgae in consuming the high nutrient content in wastewater offer additional benefit, particularly for CO2 sequestration. In this study, we proposed to evaluate the performance of multicultural bacteria obtained from municipal wastewater and Chlorella sp. for batch treatment of POME at different COD concentrations (ranges between 600 to 1,300 mg/L), microalgae species (C. vulgaris and C. pyrenoidosa) and speed of agitation (0 and 150 rpm). The results showed that between the bacteria and microalgae that are involved in POME treatment, microalgae give high removal of colour (93%) and ammoniacal nitrogen (95%). As for the COD and phosphate removal, both microorganisms show comparable performances. It was observed that C. pyrenoidosa was able to remove more colour compared to C. vulgaris where higher lipid yield production was obtained (47.6%). However, there is no significant impact of agitation on pollutant removal. This study also reveals that co-cultivation of different microalgae species does not affect the efficiency of the system. This study provides an important insight into developing an efficient and environmentally friendly method to treat wastewater by incorporating green technology in the treatment system
