Molecular Genetic Analysis of Reovirus Isolated in Korea.

Abstract: Summary: Reovirus isolates from human, striped-field mouse (Apodemus agrarius) and Korean field mouse (A. peninsulae) in Korea showed extensive variability in the patterns of electrophoretic migration of the double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) genome segments. Hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test was performed for serotype determination of 12 reovirus isolates. To clarify genetic diversity and molecular phylogeny of Korean reoviruses, L1, S3 and S4 genomic segments of reoviruses were amplified by RT-PCR and directly … Show more

“…The denaturation, annealing, and extension conditions were 95 C for 1 min, 45 C for 1 min and 72 C for 2 min, respectively, followed by a final incubation for 10 min at 72 C. For the partial amplification of L1 segment of reoviruses, cDNA was amplified using two sets of primer pairs (RV1 5'-CCATTTATGGGGGTTCCTGC-3'/ RV2 5'-YTTTAARTAYTCKGCRGTSCC-3') (11). The second PCR was performed using other two sets of primer pairs (RV3 5'-CAYATGACYACSACTTTCC-CK-3'/ RV4 5'-GCKATGTCATATTTCCATCCG-3') (11). The denaturation, annealing, and extension conditions were 95 C for 1 min, 55 C for 1 min and 72 C for 2 min, respectively, followed by a final incubation for 10 min at 72 C. Quality controls.…”

“…It is important to detect and be aware of the pathogenesis of reoviruses in water samples as these viruses have been closely associated with minor respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses of infants and young children (8,11). Our data also supported that the detection of reoviruses could be used to evaluate viral contamination in surface water, finished water, and tap water and showed that reoviruses could possibly be used as an indicator of fecal and viral contamination of environmental waters along with the commonly monitored enteroviruses.…”

“…The proposed algorithm may reduce the computational burden of the complicated public key algorithm because the public key cryptography and certificate verification are applied only at the first authentication step, and symmetric key algorithm is used thereafter. Recently, due to improvement of hardware, public key computation in a mobile node is becoming more feasible [10], [11].…”

“…To date, four reovirus serotypes have been identified: MRV1, MRV2, MRV3, and the novel serotype MRV4, for which only one strain (Ndelle virus) has been identified [5]. Recently, reovirus strains belonging to serotypes 2 and 3 were isolated from humans, mice, and swine in South Korea [12,15]; however, MRV1 has not been identified in mammals in South Korea.…”
