Abstract: Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection represents a life-threating pathogen for immunocompromised patients. Molecular quantitative testing on whole blood or plasma represents the gold standard for diagnosis of invasive HCMV infection and for monitoring antiviral treatment in individuals at risk of CMV disease.
