Molecular detection of genotypic clarithromycin‐resistant strains and its effect on the eradication rate of concomitant therapy in Helicobacter pylori infection

Abstract: Antimicrobial eradication rates for Helicobacter pylori have been decreasing and the reason for treatment failure was found to be resistance to one or more of the antibiotics. Clarithromycin resistance to H pylori was associated with point mutations in the 23S rRNA gene and the PCR-RFLP method can detect these point mutations. The aim of this study was to determine the molecular detection of genotypic clarithromycinresistant strains and its effect on the eradication rate of concomitant therapy in H pylori infe… Show more

“…The PCR-RFLP is still being used, an accurate, rapid, and low-cost method. 22,23 Both techniques showed that all phenotypic clarithromycin-resistant isolates had either A2142G, A2143G, or A2143C mutations. The prevalence of A2142G was 36% (21/58), A2143G 10% (6/58), and A2143C was 1.7% (1/ 58).…”

“…GastroHep will conclude a third year with a fully packed Asian Helicobacter pylori is extremely prevalent in Asia and thus there are a number of papers reporting eradication regimes used and their relative effectiveness. [1][2][3] Also there is a study of CYP2C19 polymorphism and its effects on therapy. 4 Studies on non-invasive diagnosis of atrophic gastritis could lead to better detection of precancerous conditions and looking at the relationship between chronic dyspeptic symptoms and underlying precancerous gastric conditions are important studies to undertake.…”
