“…Recombinant VIH of L. vannamei (Liv-rVIH) was obtained as previously reported for LivrSGP-G [17]. Briefly, DNA for Liv-SGP-G was amplified by PCR and the first Ala residue in natural Liv-SGP-G was substituted with a Gly residue (Liv-SGP-G-Gly; the precursor form of Liv-SGP-G).…”

“…Double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) targeting the GIH gene was able to induce ovarian maturation in female P. monodon (Treerattrakool et al 2008), and a single injection of an anti-GIH mAb into wild previtellogenic P. monodon was able to induce ovarian maturation and spawning at a comparable rate to the eyestalk ablation (Treerattrakool et al 2014). In addition, recombinant GIHs expressed in bacterial cells were able to reduce Vtg mRNA to the same level as that of the natural Liv-SGP-G (previously deemed another candidate of LvVIH) (Tsutsui et al 2013) in Marsupenaeus japonicus ) and L. vannamei (Chen et al 2014), suggesting that GIH plays a prominent role in the regulation of reproduction.…”

“…This difference could be due to individual polymorphisms within the genes. However, Tsutsui et al (2013) found that SGP-G (another potential LvVIH protein) precursor identified in L. vannamei possessed the structure of a typical type I peptide. Whether LvGIH and LvSGP-G are two differently spliced variants is not clear.…”

“…In different crustacean species, VTG is synthesized only in the ovary [8,17], or only in the hepatopancreas [10,27], or both in the ovary and hepatopancreas [7,20], and then transported to the oocytes subsequent accumulated in the ooplasm as vitellin after further modification. The process of vitellogenesis in crustaceans is widely assumed to be negatively controlled by VIH [4,23,26]. However, recent studies revealed that other members of CHH family may also play a role in regulating vitellogenesis [5,12,25,29].…”
