Molecular Cloning and Characterization of Orthologues of NPR1 Gene from Poplar

Abstract: The non‐expresser of pathogenesis‐related gene 1 (NPR1) is a significant regulator of systemic acquired resistance in plants. In this study, two homologous poplar genes, PtNPR1.1 (accession number ), PtNPR1.2 (accession number ), were identified by bioinformatic analysis and cloned from Populus deltoids cv. Nanlin 95. A phylogenetic tree was generated from alignments of PtNPR1 protein sequences and NPR1‐like genes in other plants. Multiple protein alignments were also constructed to analyse the distribution of… Show more

“…PbrNPR1 - like proteins have similar gene structures, domains, and conserved motifs and amino acid residues with NPR1 -like sequences in Arabidopsis , suggesting that their orthologs probably display similar biological functions in Chinese pear, while the difference between the groups specified their function was diversified. Similar results had existed in Oryza sativa , Malus domestica , Populus trichocarpa ( Shao et al, 2013 ; Yuan et al, 2007 ; Zhang et al, 2016 ). These findings indicated that the NPR1 -like genes were highly conserved in numerous plant species.…”

“…The nuclear localization of NPR1 is essential for the expression of PR genes (Despres et al, 2000; Kinkema et al, 2000; Mou et al, 2003). Preceding cellular oxidative stress NPR1 is primarily found within the cytoplasm in an oligomeric form, though some notable exceptions exist (Kinkema et al, 2000; Mou et al, 2003; Le Henanff et al, 2009; Zhang et al, 2010c; Maier et al, 2011; Peraza-Echeverria et al, 2012; Shao et al, 2013). The production of SA and subsequent oxidative stress decreases cellular reduction potential enforcing an increased production of reducing agents (Mou et al, 2003).…”
