Molecular Characterization of Betasatellite Associated with Begomovirus on Ageratum conyzoides in Magelang, Central Java

Abstract: Ageratum conyzoides is one of the common weeds in Indonesia. The presence of weed can decrease plant yield by resource competition and its role as alternative hosts for pests and diseases, especially begomoviruses transmitted by whitefly. The aim of this research is to detect and characterize the begomovirus-beta satellite in A. conyzoides. A. conyzoides showed severe yellowing symptoms were collected from Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. Total DNA was extracted and analyzed using PCR method for begomovirus … Show more

“…However, the typical symptom of yellow curly leaves was found in these plant samples (Figure 3). The DNA fragments in the two islands are similar to the Begomovirus DNA in chili plants in Yogyakarta and Central Java (580 bp) (Kandito et al 2019). The size of DNA fragments from chili Begomovirus PCR results in several areas in Indonesia has been previously reported, such as in Java and Sumatra, at 400 bp and in Bali at 912 bp (Fadhila et al 2022;Selangga et al 2019).…”
